Tonight (February 05, 2012) Chelsea will face Manchester United at Stamford Bridge, home base of Chelsea for their Champions League for quarter final first leg clash in what is sure to be a mouth watering tie. Chelsea and Manchester United met in the 2008 in same League (Champions League) in the final, where Chelsea lost on a penalty shoot out to the Red Devils.
This match will have more significance for Chelsea as the Champions League are the only trophy they have left to play for the season while Manchester United are looking to complete another historic treble. In a while Manchester United will be hoping that Rio Ferdinand passes a late fitness test after suffering from a calf injury that ruled out of United’s last few games.
Owen Hargreaves, John O’Shea, Rafael, Darren Fletcher, Anders Lindegaard and Wes Brown are all confirmed absentees and will not feature.
The only good news for the Red Devils is that goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is set to make his return after missing the West Ham win.
Chelsea are much luckier on the injury front with Yossi Benayoun and Alex the only casualties. January signing David Luiz also misses out after being cup-tied for the match.
